Our story began in the 1950s with architect David S. Miller. Miller loved modern design and wanted to add an automated retractable roof to Diamond Heights' atriums so residents could enjoy their atrium year-round. In 1958, he designed and built a Diamond Heights house's center courtyard in San Francisco, CA, which included a fully automatic retractable roof. We at Rollamatic are still a family-run business today and have sustained David Miller’s passion for art and architecture. And over 60 years after our company was founded, we have over 2,400 retractable roof installations under our belt all over California and beyond.
Over the years, we have kept it simple and still do just one thing: design and build retractable roof systems. We've completed thousands of them, yet we continue to enjoy making each one unique. The outcomes are truly breathtaking when you introduce natural light, turn an open atrium into a year-round living space, or allow rooftop access. What sets us apart in our customer's eyes? They can thank our robust engineering, which includes direct-drive motors mounted on-board. In addition, any chains, pulleys, and other parts that might impede performance have been eliminated. And finally, we use industrial-grade components.
